Allison Williams Postpones Wedding, Family comes first for Girls star Allison Williams these days. As her father, veteran NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, struggles to salvage his career following revelations that he fudged details of his coverage of the Iraq war – he's since been suspended by the network – the actress says her plans to wed longtime love Ricky Van Veen are on the back burner.
"It's been tough," Williams told Seth Meyers during a conversation at New York City's 92nd Street Y on Wednesday. "Obviously [it's] toughest on my dad, who bears the full burden of responsibility for it."
When it comes to her wedding, "You sort of think, 'What could possibly come along that would make me not think about this?' " she said. "And then I get Peter Pan [Live!], and I think, 'Okay, I will think only about Neverland, and then we'll go back to planning our wedding.'"
But life didn't exactly go according to (delayed) plans: "Then current events started happening, so that derailed it a little bit ...."
Despite many who have recently called her father's integrity into question, Williams said, "One thing the experience has not done is shake my trust and belief in him as a man."
She continued her defense: "He's a really good man. He's an honest man. He's a truthful man. He has so much integrity ... and, yes, he's a really good dad."
Williams didn't say when wedding plans will pick back up, but she and Van Veen are eager. "It has been this really beautiful through-line in our lives," she said. "It's just something we haven't focused on, but – spoiler alert – we are excited!"
