Bomb threat Atlanta

Bomb threat Atlanta, Two bomb threats caused delays Saturday afternoon at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Britt Johnson said both planes were searched and cleared.

Two credible bomb threats were made on Delta flight 1156, which was coming from Portland, Ore., and Southwest flight 2492, coming in from Milwaukee, according to airport spokesman Reese McCranie.

NORAD Media Relations Specialist Preston Schlachter confirmed that two F-16 jets launched from McIntire Air Force Base in South Carolina as a precautionary measure in response to Twitter bomb threats against two inbound commercial flights.

Both planes landed and were evacuated.A bomb squad and K-9 team from the Atlanta Police Department were examining both aircraft at an out-of-way section of the airport, McCranie said.

FBI spokesman Stephen Emmett declined to describe the threats in more detail.

The Delta Air Lines flight was detained on a taxiway for a security sweep out of abundance of caution, according to Morgan Durrant of Delta.Southwest Airlines released a statement shortly after 3:30 p.m. regarding the threats:

"Due a security situation, the aircraft operating Flight 2492 was taken to a remote area of the airport where Customers and the aircraft are being rescreened. Our number one priority is the Safety of our Customers and People. We cannot comment on the nature of the security situation."
