ABC News confirmed that Diane Sawyer has the first exclusive interview with Bruce Jenner since it became known that the Olympic gold medal winner is transgender and is beginning the transition to living life as a woman.

The sitdown, which will air as a special two-hour edition of "20/20" on April 24 at 9 p.m., promises to be one of the most highly anticipated TV news events in recent years.

The interview was filmed shortly before Jenner was involved in a car accident in Malibu on Feb. 7. One person died and eight people were injured in the multi-vehicle crash on Pacific Coast Highway. Jenner has not been charged in the incident.
