City Love: Elettra Wiedemann and James Marshall's New York Nuptials

City Love: Elettra Wiedemann and James Marshall's New York Nuptials, If you want a feel for the kind of low-key couple Elettra Wiedemann and James Marshall are, consider that the band they hired for their wedding reception was one they’d discovered while walking their dog, Happy, in Washington Square Park. “

They were a cute, sweet little band,” says Wiedemann, who requested twenties-era jazz tunes to recall the romance of her paternal grandparents, who were in attendance. They, along with more than 40 of the couple’s family members, attended the ceremony followed by an all-night dance party at Marshall’s West Village restaurant, Whitehall.

The rustic cafĂ© was filled with the bride’s favorite pink peonies, a Swedish princess cake in honor of Wiedemann’s Stockholm-born grandmother Ingrid Bergman, and a playful photo booth in the back.

Perhaps the most sentimental element was the silk cocktail frock with a short, Swarovski-encrusted skirt, designed by Giambattista Valli, who had introduced the couple five years before at a London benefit. At the time, Marshall was moving to New York, so Wiedemann gave him her phone number, but he didn’t call until six months later. Marshall retold the story and ended it by giving that time-worn scrap, now framed, to his new wife.
