Casting rumors and production news have been swirling over director Peter Jackson’s next trip to Middle Earth in “The Hobbit” But what has become of the cast from the original “Lord of the Rings” trilogy? And, will any of them be returning? Click on to find out.

Ian McKellen

The British actor was well known for a certain Steven Spielberg film before playing Gimli. Since his time in Middle Earth, he has lent his powerful voice to “Risen” and the “Lord of the Rings” video games.
Andy Serkis
His portrayal of Gollum was mostly CGI (what’s that?), but the close resemblance and his voice was enough to creep out any viewer. Look for this character actor in a new Steven Spielberg film and a science fiction epic.
Sean Bean
As Boromir, he was a noble commander of Gondor’s army. He’s back in fantasy action with the recent premiere of his new HBO show  Bean also has several upcoming film projects, including a war story.

Peter Jackson
After another famous director dropped out  Peter Jackson, the director of the trilogy, is currently working on its latest installment, “The Hobbit,” and he’s looking for success after directing some big-budget flops like “King Kong” and “The Lovely Bones”
