Frances Bean Cobain
Courtney Love, the late rocker's widow, and her estranged daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, shared a warm embrace on the red carpet before the flick's screening Saturday, momentarily quieting some simmering family drama that threatened to sour the much buzzed-about event.
Last week, sources told The News' Confidenti@l Love and Frances hadn't spoken for a few years, after an uneasy peace forged in 2012 went downhill.
One insider said people behind events for the HBO flick, on which Frances served as an executive producer, were concerned about a blow up, and that the 22-year-old model and artist would have preferred her mom "stayed away altogether."But tensions appeared to have eased Saturday, as Cobain and Love hugged and smiled in front of banks of reporters and cameras.
At one point, Frances, rocking a midriff-bearing purple Moschino number, even put her head on her mom's shoulder as they posed with the film's director Brett Morgen. ("The Kid Stays in the Picture")"Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck" is the first fully-authorized documentary about late rocker and has been among the buzziest films of the early Sundance set.
It contains loads of archival footage as well as new interviews with Love and Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic. (Drummer Dave Grohl also appears, but only in old recordings.)After the movie, Love tweeted two heartfelt messages to her daughter, who uses the handle alka_seltzer666, along with a photo of them posing check-to-cheek.
"So sad @brettmorgen @alka_seltzer666 so so sad yet so uplifting, beautiful and gorgeous. Your daddy would be so proud of you baby. thank u," Love wrote.
"So proud of you Bean."
