Jeremy Clarkson final verdict RECAP: Updates and reaction as Top Gear host sacked

Jeremy Clarkson final verdict RECAP: Updates and reaction as Top Gear host sacked, Jeremy Clarkson was told no star is bigger than the BBC when he was axed from Top Gear for his attack on a producer that put him in A&E.

And the former presenter could now face a police quiz over his bust-up with Oisin Tymon in a Yorkshire hotel.

BBC director-general Tony Hall said a report into the fracas found Clarkson, 54, unleashed a 20-minute volley of abuse at his victim on the hotel patio after a 30-second physical attack.

Speaking of the sacking, which could cost the Beeb £64million in lost revenue from sales of the Top Gear franchise, Lord Hall said: “A member of staff, who is a completely innocent party, took himself to accident and emergency after a physical altercation accompanied by sustained and prolonged verbal abuse of an extreme nature."

The fate of Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson is to be decided today.

Clarkson had been left in limbo for two weeks since the BBC announced his suspension following what it described as "a fracas" with producer Oisin Tymon.

Both Clarkson and Tymon have given evidence to an internal BBC investigation, led by Ken MacQuarrie, into what happened.

Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper previously said: "I think if my son or daughter went to a place of work where they were shouted at, abused and someone threw a punch at them I would want there to be an inquiry and for that to be dealt with in a very serious way and that's what the BBC is currently doing."

After two weeks of decision-making, the verdict is due to be delivered - and we'll be bringing you all the latest updates and reaction.
