MICHAEL KEATON IS ALL IN FOR BEETLEJUICE SEQUEL

MICHAEL KEATON IS ALL IN FOR BEETLEJUICE SEQUEL, There's been a lot of talk about a Beetlejuice sequel lately. Tim Burton, who has been promoting his new movie, Big Eyes, recently confirmed that he plans to direct the sequel hopefully with Michael Keaton returning as the titular character. The director told IGN in December that a follow-up to the 1988 film is "closer than ever." But what about Keaton?

The actor scored a Golden Globe last night for his work in Birdman and was immediately bombarded backstage by questions from the press about Beetlejuice. Keaton admitted, "It is not up to me. I said for years—I don't know why we didn't do another one two years later." When pressed he added that he still feels connected to the character, noting that the sequel is simply "a question of me and Tim being around and available."

Keaton seemed almost baffled by his win over people like Bill Murray, Christoph Waltz, and Ralph Fiennes. "Look, man, I'll take this," Keaton told reporters. "This is great. But who is better or best, is distasteful but a tricky thing. I am proud and I'll take it. There's not a person in that room tonight who couldn't have won something." Birdman was categorized as a comedy for the sake of the Globes, although it crosses genres, and Keaton also cited several of his comedic idols.

"When I saw Fast Times at Ridgemont High, I'd seen this kid as a young guy, holy moley. This guy's approach to comedy was so good and so authentic, and I called and I said I saw this guy in this movie, I want to do a movie with him, and it was Sean Penn. He happened to be funny, but what I dug about it was how authentic it was. Jonah Hill is the same, so committed to the comedy."

But back to that Beetlejuice sequel. It sounds like Keaton is in. Now all they need to do is call Winona Ryder and get everyone's schedule in line. If all goes well, Keaton could be winning another comedy Golden Globe in a few years.
