The new True Detective trailer proves actions really do speak louder than words

The new True Detective trailer proves actions really do speak louder than words, Jeez, we just don't know where to begin with the trailer for the new True Detective series. There are house raids, there's fighting, there's Rachel McAdams looking badass as a cop, there's Colin Farrell looking slightly creepy as a cop, there's Vince Vaughn looking like a cop but not actually playing a cop at all, and then there's Taylor Kitsch who just looks really, really sad. Oh, and did we mention there is literally no talking. Not even an exhale, or a small cough. Nothing. Zilch. Nada.

Apart from a lot of drinking and meeting in dark bars, it looks like this season 2 is going to be a lot different from the last. For a start, it features not just two high-profile characters (who came in the shape of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in season 1) but four as Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch all feature in the second season in various roles. We've got McAdams in the leading female role as Sheriff Ani Bezzirades "a Venture County Sheriff's detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves," according to HBO.

The heavily suited-and-booted Vaughn will play former "thug turned businessman" Frank Semyon, "a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner."Vaughn's character "is working with corrupt politicians to push through 'a high-speed railway system' that would run along the coast of California bringing business in its wake. Semyon tries to go legit but the murder of an associate derails that plan. He's got politicians in his pockets and more than misdemeanors on his mind." Which probably explains why he looks like he really isn't loving life in the trailer.

Colin Farrell stars as Ray Velcoro, a California Highway Patrol officer who is a "compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him." He also deals with "cocaine and anger management" and was "suspended for sexually exploiting a young woman he pulled over." Given the trailer sees him caught up in a lot of smoking, a lot of punching and a lot of 'who can hold eye contact for the longest' showdowns, we don't find that surprising.

And then there's Kitsch, the very beautiful, very sad, Kitsch. Starring as Paul Woodrugh, "a war veteran and motorcycle officer for the California Highway Patrol, running from a difficult past and the sudden glare of a scandal that never happened," he looks like he pretty much lives by the motto, "Punch now, regret it later."
