Video Games To Play On Halloween

When you're too lazy to play dress up, you can always pick up a controller, pop in your favorite game and check out these video games to play on Halloween.

Halloween is slowly closing in and we at hope you’re getting ready to celebrate. On October 31st, you’ll have the chance to roam the streets dressed as any kind of crazy creature or character you can image, annoy your neighbors and be rewarded with mountains of free candy. In the process you can boast and show those elementary school kids how to trick-or-treat like a boss. Try this any other day of the year and we’re fairly certain you’re going to end up behind bars. In the event you’re too cool (or lazy) to dress up and venture out into diabetes paradise, you can always escape reality the same legal way you usually do: playing a video game. From the Playstation 2 to the Xbox 360, the horror-laced holiday has haunted many consoles for your enjoyment. To stay true to the Halloween spirit, here are the best video games to play on Halloween.

Undead Nightmare

Rockstar Games proved yet again they’re the kings of the open-world genre with their wild west version of Grand Theft Auto. Red Dead Redemption gave us a gorgeous world to explore and an interesting cast of characters to meet. But just like GTA, there was one thing the game was lacking: zombies. To celebrate All Hallow's Eve, the developers released Undead Nightmare, a perfect video game to play on Halloween. Now, gamers could give John Marston a better use for his shotgun as he rode across the American Old West on horseback, unloading shells into the undead. Here’s hoping Rockstar Games realized the downloadable content was a hit and focuses on a horror theme for their next open-world adventure.
Little Big Planet

There’s nothing wrong with Halloween being adorable. Keeping with the Halloween theme, Media Molecule released a jack-o-lantern outfit for Sackboy a few days before the event last year. While overall the game is lacking a trick-or-treat vibe, this costume will let you bring the holiday’s charisma into the lovable world. To top it off, there are plenty of Halloween-style created maps at your fingertips by the massively creative Little Big Planet community. A shoe-in when deciding which video games to play on Halloween this year.
Kingdom Hearts

This fan-favorite action RPG gave players the chance to dive into a town purely inspired by the ghoulish holiday: Halloween Town. In Kingdom Hearts, we could finally team-up with our claymated bff, Jack Skellington. It’s only natural he’d appear in a game with the likes of Donald Duck or Goofy. I smell a pitch for another video game to play on Halloween..
Ghostbusters

Who ya gonna play? This game! While it might not take place on Halloween, there’s nothing more in-theme with the holiday than battling ghosts as a member of the Ghostbusters. This game sees the return of the cast from the original Ghostbusters movie and brings well-crafted, third-person gameplay mechanics to the spooky and comedic Universe. Don’t cross the streams, it would be bad. Just pop-in this video game to play on Halloween.
Oogie's Revenge

If seeing Jack Skellington in Kingdom Hearts isn’t enough for you, this game is right up your alley. In Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie’s Revenge, you can step into the shoes of the Tim Burton’s legendary creation. You’ll have the opportunity kick all sorts of PG-rated ass as you discover the world outside of Halloween Town. Despite being geared towards a younger crowd, the combat isn’t all that shabby, so check out this video game to play on Halloween.
Costume Quest

This downloadable Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 game really is the ultimate video game to play on Halloween. Costume Quest offers you an RPG, adventure experience during a night of trick-or-treating gone wrong. Your sibling is stolen by a monster, and you’re going to rescue them, one turn-based battle at a time. Thankfully, you’re not just a mere child going up against these creatures of the night. Costumes grant you powers and boost you to the size of a Power Rangers “make my monsters grow” kind of fight. When you’re not beating down other baddies, you’ll have fun upgrading your costumes and using candy as cash. Although, as a child, I imagine trading candy as currency takes a hell of a lot of willpower.
