Sketchers controversy, There’s a Skechers controversy. Some Northern Ohio moms aren’t too happy about a new marketing ad campaign for footwear, urging daughters to spend their father’s hard-earned cash.

Skechers new line of sneakers for tween and teenage girls is called, “Daddy’s Money” and they are already catching the attention of their target audience at the Great Northern Mall in North Olmsted......fox8

Brieanna Amend, 11, from Elyria says, “I think they’re cute. I like the zebra ones, more than anything really.”
The controversial marketing campaign for the sneaker wedges boasts the tag line, “Get Spoiled With Daddy’s Money.”

But the company’s tween collection is raising some eyebrows among parents, with some questioning if the word, “Daddy” is referencing a girl’s father, or if it’s short for “Sugar Daddy.”

“I have two girls and I don’t think that’s an appropriate message. My kids would probably think, oh, let me go get dad’s money from their dad, but I don’t think that’s what they’re trying to say,” said Toni Tomoto of East Cleveland.
University Hospitals pediatrician and child advocate Dr. Lolita McDavid says the shoes, which range in price from fifty to eighty dollars, are sending a dangerous message to young girls.

“I just think it sends a message to little girls about having somebody take care of you. I mean, I think we all want our daughters to be strong and feel like they’re gonna be able to do what they can do and be everything that they can be,” said Dr. McDavid.

Skechers is defending their product telling FOX 8, “The Daddy’s Money name and collection’s advertising are designed to be fun and lighthearted, and we regret that some people have been offended by the name.”
