East Haven, Conn., house, damaged in plane crash, is demolished

East Haven, Conn., house, damaged in plane crash, is demolished, One of two East Haven, Conn., houses heavily damaged in an Aug. 9 plane crash that killed four people was demolished Thursday morning.

The house at 68 Charter Oak Avenue was reduced to rubble in about a half hour, the Hartford Courant reported.

The neighboring house, which took a direct hit from the Rockwell International 690B private jet plane, will remain standing for now, Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. said.

"Environmental concerns from the jet fuel deposited on 64 Charter Oak Avenue have made the process of demolishing that property a bit more complex," Maturo said in a written statement.

Two children, ages 1 and 13, residents of the still-standing home, died in the crash, as did the pilot of the plane and a passenger, his son, 17.

In a preliminary report released this week, the National transportation Safety Board said the pilot, Bill Henningsgaard, 54, could see Tweed-New Haven Airport and had made radio contact with the airport before the crash.
