Giant Gundam Robot 60 foot tall and 77,000 lbs

Giant Gundam Robot 60 foot tall and 77,000 lbs, Tokyo has been taken over by this giant robot - which is tasked with standing guard outside the country's newest tourist attraction.

The 18metre Gundam has taken pride of place in front of the DiverCity Tokyo Plaza complex - which houses the theme park of the animation series bearing the same name.

And weighing in at 35tonnes, it's a good job it has been nailed to the ground - because it would be likely to pack a serious King Kong style punch if it was ever let loose on the city.

Visitors to the Gundam Front Tokyo venue have the chance to see what life is like inside the popular animation. There is a 16metre wide Dome-G cinema displaying dynamic images of famous scenes in the past series.

And in the Experience Field area, visitors can view 1/1 Core Fighter Ver.GFT of the first series or the life-size bust of Strike Freedom Gundam Ver.GFT in the Seed Destiny series. Italian tour guide Marco Rondoni said on his visit: 'There is nothing similar in Italy.

'Mechanic design in particular is beautiful. It's so real...all the series of Gundam are really real like a real war, not like other robots.'

The television animation series 'Mobile Suites Gundam' began in 1979. Numerous sequels and spin-offs have appeared.
Despite often being mistaken for the U.S. science fiction robots from Transformers, the Gundam have their own identity and massive fanbase.
