Is War Machine a mad genius?

Is War Machine a mad genius?, According to an Aug. 15 post from Fox Sports, War Machine is back in the headlines this week due to his penchant for tweeting offensive content from his official Twitter handle.

Over the past year, Mr. Machine has been ripped in the media for tweeting rape jokes, along with downright bizarre statements regarding the American prison system.

This week, he took it so far that Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney was forced to make a public statement about it.

"While his public apology surely does not excuse his statement, it does evidence his recognition of the seriousness of the situation and his realization that what he said was offensive, ignorant and hurtful," Rebney stated. "Since the day I entered this business, I’ve believed that my job was to treat our fighters like human beings and not like property. Human beings make mistakes and sometimes say stupid things. I’m surely prepared to take action in warranted situations as evidenced by recent promotional contracts we have terminated with well-known, popular fighters who have committed assault and/or who have broken the law. But, in this situation, I remain hopeful that Jon will learn from his mistake, redeem himself and become a better man for it and I would like to give him that chance."

Even War Machine made a rare apology for the "rape joke" tweet that landed him in hot water.

"I tweeted something earlier that was stupid, insensitive and wrong. Rape is never something to joke about ever," War Machine tweeted. "I sincerely apologize."

Is it possible that War Machine is a bit of a mad genius, who knows that no press really is bad press? That could explain why Bellator opted to not fine the standout welterweight, as it earned the promotion additional press coverage in outlets that don't normally cover them.

Additionally, it should be noted that War Machine's former girlfriend, MMA star Rachael Cummins, said in a recent interview that he trolls the Internet just to get a reaction.

"He's actually not as crazy as everyone thinks," Rachael Cummins said of War Machine. "He would write stuff on the computer and be like 'I'm gonna see what kind of reaction I'm gonna get. People think he's so crazy. He's crazy, but he's not as crazy.. People think he's way crazier than he really is."

Part of the reason why War Machine was able to notch over 20,000 Twitter followers is because he has no filter and says whatever is on his mind.

Love him or hate him, he has completed his objective of getting people to talk about him.
