Obama 'Played Cards' During Bin Laden Raid, Barack Obama played cards to ease tension on the day of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, the US president's former personal aide has said.
Reggie Love recounted the day in May 2011 when Navy Seals stormed bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, and killed the terror mastermind.
"It was a very long day, and I spent the entire day at the White House," Mr Love said.
"Most people were like down in the Situation Room, but he was like: 'I'm not … going to be down there, I can't watch this entire thing,'" Mr Love said in a forum at UCLA.
Mr Love said he played cards with the president, White House photographer Pete Souza, and "Marvin" - believed to be a reference to Marvin Nicholson, another of the president's aides - in the White House private dining room.
"We must have played 15 games of Spades," Mr Love said.
An iconic photo captured Mr Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other top officials and generals watching the events unfold in the Situation Room.
The president has admitted being nervous during the raid, saying in an interview with CBS that there was a lot of waiting around.
"There were big chunks of time in which all we were doing was just waiting," Mr Obama said.
"It was the longest 40 minutes of my life. It was a very tense situation."
