WWII vet beaten: 88-year-old killed by teens

WWII vet beaten: 88-year-old killed by teens , WWII vet was beaten to death in Spokane, Washington. On Aug. 23, CNN reported that police arrested a "juvenile" and he was charged with first degree murder and robbery. Delbert Belton, 88, was beaten outside of a lounge that he frequented often to play pool. Two teens reportedly jumped him, robbed him, and then beat him to death.

"The Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office on Friday said the cause of the death was blunt facial and head injuries. It also said in a news release that the manner of Belton's Thursday death was homicide," CNN reported.

The WWII vet was badly beaten and police say that the attack was random. It does appear as though the teens weren't looking for a particular person to rob but perhaps Belton's age and height (he was called "Shorty" by his friends) made him an easy target. There does not seem to be a motive in the attack and it sounds like Belton was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Police are still looking for a second suspect. Fingerprints were taken from a nearby chain link fence and surveillance video has been obtained by authorities. It is believed that they have enough evidence against the suspect that they have in custody and perhaps the other teen as well -- if they can find him.

The WWII vet beaten to death is survived by his 65-year-old son. His wife passed away "several" years ago.
