San Francisco Police have issued the following statement on the falling death of the fan:

Just before 1:30pm this afternoon a tragic death occurred at Candlestick Park before the 49ers game.

The victim, male in his 30s, was walking with his brother on the Jamestown pedestrian walkway. The victim fell onto the sidewalk and suffered serious injuries. Off duty medical personnel and SFPD officers rendered aid until a ambulance arrived.

The victim died from his injuries. The medical examiner will release identify of the victim once next of kin is notified. Multiple independent witnesses indicated he appeared to be intoxicated prior to his fall.

San Francisco Police say they responded to a number of calls at Candlestick Sunday reporting rowdy and often drunken fans.

The San Francisco 49er team issued a brief a statement about the fan's fatal fall.

NFL.com reports that 49ers spokesman Bob Lange confirmed the team was aware of the accident outside the stadium: "We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time."

"It was not clear how far the man fell from the Jamestown walkway, which goes around the outside of Candlestick."
