Steve Emerson Muslim Birmingham

Steve Emerson Muslim Birmingham, Steve Emerson has issued an apology for discussing Muslim populations in Birmingham, Britain, this week on a Fox News segment. In an update to this story, E! Online reported this Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, that hundreds of Twitter users soon spouted their own backlash against Emerson and his inaccurate comments. Not only were viewers citing his claims as false and offensive, but people used the hashtag #FoxNewsFacts to cite foolish examples of guest comments from the news channel.

With the pain and tragedy of the Paris terrorist attacks over the weekend still being felt, the need for international unity and support is greater than ever. There have even been reports of Jews fleeing Paris for safety. So when Steve Emerson stated that Birmingham — a large city in the UK — has become so densely populated by Muslims that non-Islamic people refuse to enter it, many people found his remarks disrespectful (not to mention untrue). Although the self-described expert on Islamic extremism and radicalism later offered an apology through his own Twitter account, his words apparently weren’t enough to stem the outrage directed towards him.

Significant and almost immediate backlash was directed toward the Fox News commentator after he offered such statements alleging that religious police exist throughout Birmingham. These “Muslim” officers will allegedly then proceed to beat and seriously injury those who refuse to follow proper, traditional Islamic clothing. The authority on American and foreign terrorism also stated that the region has almost entirely been overrun by Muslims. Jeanine Pirro, a Fox correspondent, listened to his words during the broadcast.

News Oxy sheds some light on some of Steve’s (false) statements as well. Approximately 65 percent of citizens in Birmingham actually consider themselves Christian, and do not seem to have any issue or worry with moving unhindered from the city to elsewhere. This is of course in direct contrast to the wrongful implication that Muslims have “control” in terms of sheer numbers within the UK territory.

Soon afterwards, #FoxNewsFacts began to become a satirical trend on social media site Twitter. Many users appeared upset not only that Fox News welcomed Steve on the program for the guest to say such remarks, but that his claims were so fabricated and unreasonable. Here are some of the statuses provided in this update report:

It was not long before Steve Emerson apparently realized his mistake and confessed he was in error. His claims have since been called by the public and political leaders alike as “rubbish” and simply “speaking nonsense.” Gisela Stuart of Birmingham, Britain, noted that there were virtually “no redeeming features” from his talk with the Fox correspondent, and that Muslims (among others) had a right to be upset over the circumstances. Where do you stand on the controversy?
