Emilia Clarke Has 'No Regrets' About Passing Up a Chance to Star in Fifty Shades

Emilia Clarke Has 'No Regrets' About Passing Up a Chance to Star in Fifty Shades, Pet dragons? No problem. Blonde wig? On it. Stripping down for Christian Grey in the Red Room? Err, pass.

So says Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, 28, who has "no regrets" about turning down a chance to play submissive Anastasia Steele in the wildly successful Fifty Shades of Grey movie.

"I'd done nudity before and was concerned with being labeled for doing it again," she told The Hollywood Reporter for its latest cover story.

Saying no was seemingly easy for the British actress, who was once rumored to be a frontrunner for the role, and Clarke confirmed she had two meetings with Shades director Sam Taylor-Johnson before ultimately passing on the mega-project.

Clarke's prominent role in GoT – aka HBO's most successful series ever – presumably make her feel a whole lot better about declining the role. Donning a blonde wig and steely demeanor, she has gained legions of fans for her portrayal of Queen Daenerys Targaryen, who leads her slave army across the Seven Kingdoms – and occasionally flashes the audience along the way.

And while she passed on Shades, Clarke did choose to step into another high-profile role: Sarah Connor in Terminator Genisys, out July 1. (She met her current boyfriend, costar Jai Courtney, on set.)

But before the Terminator hoopla begins, GoT launches its fifth season April 12 – and Clarke says the pinch-me feeling she's had since the show first became a hit has yet to wane.

"Never in a million years did I think Game of Thrones was going to take off like it did," she said. "It's taken me five years to catch up with it. I'm still not sure I'm there."
