'Idol' Goes '80s

'Idol' Goes '80s, David Hasselhoff was a fixture in the 1980s and reminded everyone about it on Wednesday night's double-elimination episode of American Idol.

Maddie Walker and Adanna Duru were kicked off the Fox singing competition show as Rayvon Owen beat them to the ninth place and moved on to the next round.

During a 1980s theme night with Boy George as guest mentor the girls did not even get a chance to sing as they finished at the bottom of last week's voting.

And with no save after the judges used it for Qaasim Middleton last week, Adanna and Maddie were the victims of the double elimination as the field narrowed from eleven to nine.

Knight Rider star Hasselhoff, 62, kicked off the show and was asked by host Ryan Seacrest about his memories of the 1980s.

'I don't remember much about the '80s. But I had a great time in the '80s, what I do remember was the music was soul, funk and disco,' said The Hoff as he took off his coat and tie to wolf whistles.

The Hoff then unbuttoned his shirt, and put on his famed black leather jacket and sunglasses to loud cheers.
'We had crazy hair, big hair, lots of hair, you know. But the biggest thing I remember about the '80s right, is that it was fun. And you had to be cool,' he insisted.

Hasselhoff then launched into a medley of '80s hits, including Queen's Crazy Little Thing, Walking On Sunshine, Never Gonna Give You Up, Do You Really Want to Hurt Me, Let's Dance and I Love Rock N Roll.

One of the 1980's biggest stars, Boy George, then met the contestants and gave them some advice about making it in the industry.

'What I learned is that vulnerability is more important than anything. If you sing something from your heart then people connect with that,' he told them.

'If I was going to give you any advice at all I would say enjoy what you are doing, don't make it into a drama - leave that to me.'

George then joined all of the contestants on stage to perform his biggest US hit, Karma Chameleon that in 1984 reached number one.

Daniel Seavey, 15, was the first solo performance with his version of You Make My Dreams by Hall & Oates.'You look so good on camera and it is really easy and enjoyable watching you. The one thing that happens when you are 15 or 16 and have only been performing a bit is you don't have the experience. I'm glad you are still here but you have to get comfortable quicker,' said judge Keith Urban.

Jennifer Lopez told Daniel that he had improved from last week but told him to 'loosen up and find yourself' on stage.
'I thought the vocal was pretty good but you need to take the choreography and throw it away. Have fun, go out and have a good time, get out there and screw around and have fun, act like you are having a blast,' said Harry Connick Jr.

Quentin Alexander performed In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins, after Boy George complimented his fashion sense.
'Your cool factor was on a thousand right there, that was crazy. The mood of it, the drama of it, for me it really works. You are who you are and for me it was a home run,' J-Lo told him.

'You dig about as deeply as you can into those lyrics,' Harry complimented him as he warned Quentin about choosing too many slow-tempo songs.

'I think that was a killer song choice for you. You are continuing to own it more and more because you have so much artistry,' said Keith.

Joey Cook was next up performing Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Want To Have Fun, with Boy George advising her to be soft with the tune.

'You seem really distracted to me tonight,' an unimpressed Harry told her.
'I am not sure what was going on in your head, I definitely felt that something was separating us tonight, something was different. It was good but not the Joey we know.'

Keith told her that she had set a high bar for herself and that she had been inconsistent.'I keep imagining my wife and daughters now, and I guarantee you they were dancing around the living room through that whole performance,' he encouraged.

J-Lo said it was a good choice of song but that her vocal performance had not matched it. The judges reaction was so cool that Boy George ran out on stage to comfort Joey and give her a hug.

I feel like I need to make you a cup of British tea. You are doing great, you are all doing great, I love the outfit,' he said.
Tyanna Jones, 16, from Florida, sang I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston, with Boy George warning her not to show off in the moment.

Keith told her that she was such a good singer she should smile more and not worry up on stage.
'You are not going to be perfect all the time. Nobody is. Come out here and do what you are born to do,' said J-Lo as she told Tyanna to not worry about setbacks.

'I like watching performers that look like they are in the driver's seat and that is how I feel about you. that was strong but do not get complacent. You still ned to work, you know how good you are, but you still need to fight for it every time,' said Harry.

Jackie 'Jax' Cole did a stripped down piano version of You Give Love A Bad Name by Bon Jovi.
'You are giving us all that '80s punk attitude and I love everything about it. This is the Jax we first saw and fell in love with,' said J-Lo.

'Your originality is what brought you hear and your intrigue is what kept you here,' said Harry but added that he thought Jax got lost in the big sound of the tune.

Keith agreed but praised her originality even though he felt it did not all come together in the performance.
'You are going to go a long way though,' he assured her.
