David Messerschmitt slaying

David Messerschmitt slaying, Police who relied on surveillance video to help identify their suspect have arrested a woman for the stabbing death of a Washington, D.C., attorney found dead last February in the room of an upscale hotel.

David Messerschmitt, 30, was last heard from via text to his wife, Kim Vuong, at 7:34 p.m. on Feb. 9 stating that he would be home in an hour, The Washington Post reports.

After the discovery of his bloody body the next morning in Room 400 of the boutique Donovan hotel on Washington, D.C.'s Thomas Circle, the crime went unsolved for weeks, and Vuong held a news conference March 25 outside of police headquarters asking for the public's help.

"I know there are people out there who could bring justice to David and me, to our families and friends, and to everyone in Washington who deserves to live in safety," she said.

On Wednesday, police arrested Jamyra Gallmon, 21, on a charge of first-degree felony murder while armed, according to Fox News.

Police earlier had released surveillance video and photographs that they said showed a person of interest, cloaked in a dark blue jacket with a hood and black gloves, on hotel stairs and in the lobby about 7:45 p.m. on the evening they believe Messerschmitt was stabbed.

A search warrant in the case revealed that after confirming Messerschmitt had checked into the hotel, police who entered his room found him lying face down on the floor with apparent stab wounds to the back, and blood on the floor, walls and a door, MyFoxDC reports.

Among the evidence seized from the room, according to the search affidavit: credit cards, an HP computer, lubricant, a condom, an enema, a cell phone, bedding, a watch, a towel and a curtain.

In a court document filed Thursday, investigators revealed they found that Messerschmitt had posted on Craigslist soliciting responses from other men, and communicated with an account linked to Gallmon, CBS DC reports.

Gallmon told police she went to the hotel with the intent to rob Messerschmitt, according to that court document, but stabbed him after he grabbed her arm and they began to fight.

Messerschmitt was an intellectual-property lawyer with the international firm DLA Piper who lived with his wife on Capitol Hill, according to the Post.

Gallmon, says her former teacher and basketball coach at Forestville Military Academy, was a good student who took college prep classes and was never involved in any altercations.

"Jamyra was a wonderful person, she was a wonderful student. Real low key, real calm individual," the teacher, Vincent McDuffie, told MyFoxDC. "She was a normal teenaged girl."

In a statement issued via email after the suspect's arrest, Vuong said, "I would like to thank the Metropolitan Police Department for their hard work and continued diligence. I have faith that the police and the courts will bring justice to David and all who loved him. I will have no further comment until his case is resolved and I continue to ask for privacy for me and family."

Gallmon has not yet entered a plea, and court documents did not name an attorney for her.
