Emily Debrayda Phillips obituary

Emily Debrayda Phillips obituary, A Florida woman wrote her own obituary — and it will leave you in tears.

Before she succumbed to pancreatic cancer, Emily Debrayda Phillips, was able to spell out her own legacy by penning a touching obituary — and urging the rest of us to “make something amazing out of your life” — in her local paper, the Florida Times-Union.

Phillips died on March 25 at age 69, just 29 days after she was diagnosed with cancer.

Her words, published earlier this week, began, “It pains me to admit it, but apparently, I have passed away,” and have become a social media hit.

The original post has received more than 53,000 likes and was shared 7,000 times. The former teacher touchingly detailed her life, from her happy childhood, her time as head majorette, marrying “the man of my dreams” and “proudly” beginning her life as a teacher in January 1968.

She also gushed about her children, Bonnie and Scott, and apologized to them for some of the clothes she dressed them in as youngsters.

Phillips then spoke tenderly about her “five grand-angels” who “stole not only my heart, but also spent most of my money.”Towards the end of her obituary, she wrote that: “So … I was born; I blinked; and it was over. No buildings named after me; no monuments erected in my honor.
But I DID have the chance to know and love each and every friend as well as all my family members. How much more blessed can a person be?”

She then urged others to make the most out of their lives and “never stop smiling.”

Her daughter said she “couldn’t be more proud of my mom.”

“It was just really amazing that she was able to do it under such yucky, awful circumstances and maintain her sense of humor and her sense of grace,” Bonnie told Today.com.

And one online commentator remarked that "she said no monuments were made for her. She made her own."
