Selena Hologram to Record and Tour, Late Singer's Family Says

Selena Hologram to Record and Tour, Late Singer's Family Says, Iconic Tejano music star Selena Quintanilla will become the latest star to receive a second life as a hologram, Billboard confirms, adding to an announcement made on the singer's official Facebook.

Nevada-based company Acrovirt LLC is behind the projection – or "digital human essence," per the company – which will be called "Selena The One."

The "walking, talking, singing and dancing digital embodiment" will "release new songs and videos [and] collaborate with current hit artists," with a tour planned for 2018.

Acrovirt intends to launch an IndieGoGo campaign on April 16 to raise $500,000 for the project. The San Diego Latino Film Festival is also an official partner for the project.

The news comes as a reversal of sorts: In 2014, Selena's father Abraham took a meeting with San Diego's AV Concepts, the company behind the Tupac hologram at Coachella 2012, and came away less than hopeful. "The prices are ridiculous and it requires the transportation of tons of equipment," he reportedly said. Selena's brother A.B. added that the family wasn't impressed with the company's work, either: "She looked like a ghost. The image was not well defined."

But the family is now hopeful about the technology and the possibilities it represents. "By no means is this something that's creepy or weird," Selena's sister Suzette told Billboard. "We think it's something amazing. A lot of the new fans that did not get to experience what Selena was about hopefully will be able to get a sense of her with this new technology that's going to be coming out."
