Rrobert durst billion dollar fugitive

Rrobert durst billion dollar fugitive, Fugitive millionaire murder suspect Robert Durst now faces a $1 billion bond. Durst, the scion of a powerful New York real estate family, is charged with dismembering a 71-year-old neighbor in Galveston, Tex. He has been on the lam since he failed to show up for an Oct. 16 court hearing. Durst was free on $300,000 bail at the time.

The Galveston district attorney's office asked for the higher bond yesterday, citing Durst's disappearance and the brutality of his crime. Authorities accuse Durst of killing Morris Black, whose headless torso and limbs were found Sept. 30 floating in Galveston Bay. The bond was increased from $1 million, though the amount is moot for now because a judge already has revoked bond on an accompanying bail-jumping charge. "I've never heard of a bond of a billion dollars," Robert Durst's Texas attorney, Mark Kelly, said. "I have not had any contact with [Durst]. I would urge him to contact me.

" Meanwhile, Fox TV prepared to feature Durst on its "America's Most Wanted" program. Kelly made a public plea for his client to turn himself in, saying that he continues to believe "that Mr. Durst could receive a fair trial in Galveston county.

" Westchester County authorities are investigating whether Durst was involved in the 1982 disappearance of his wife. Police in Los Angeles also are interested in talking to Durst about the unsolved murder of a friend, author Susan Berman. Berman was being sought for questioning in Kathleen Durst's disappearance when she was killed. An LAPD spokesman said its detectives "are working with the detectives in Texas" and refuted a published report that Durst was not a suspect in Berman's death. "He has not been ruled out as a suspect," said
